Shaki: How My Personal Interest in Cybersecurity Turned into a Career in the U.S. Foreign Service
Shaki, born in Dhaka, Bangladesh and raised in New York City, entered the Foreign Affairs IT Fellowship program as he started his master’s degree in information systems with Pace University. He successfully completed the Fellowship and is now a U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Specialist.
In this video interview, Shaki talks about how the FAIT Fellowship program combined his strong interest in serving his country with being able to travel around the world and his interest in technology – particularly cybersecurity.
“There’s a lot of things you can do at the State Department,” says Shaki. “There are many openings for the IMS [Information Management Specialist] position, and the work that you can do has a big impact on the mission of diplomacy because they need more techs in the field to enable the mission of diplomacy. If you want to make a difference, as an IMS you can.”
